As of July 2023, the Personal Assistance Act provides legal recognition of personal assistance as a right for people with disabilities in Croatia. SUMSI is a registered provider of these services and has a contract with the Ministry of Labour, Pension System, Family, and Social Policy for delivering personal assistance within the national network of these services.
Personal assistance is a social service providing help and support to individuals with disabilities, in activities they are unable to perform due to the type and degree of their disability. This support is essential for daily life both at home and outside, as well as for communication and accessing information. The service aims to enhance independence, community participation, human rights protection, and equality.
Here are some examples of personal assistance:
Household chores: Cooking, cleaning, etc., depending on the individual’s needs.
Personal care: Feeding, bathing, and toileting.
Mobility support: Assistance with walking, transferring, and using mobility aids.
Companionship: Social interaction and support with travel and leisure activities.
Administrative tasks: Helping with paperwork and appointments.
